What are wakeboards?

Wakeboards are water based recreational and adventure sports equipments. Wakeboards are a combination of surfboarding and snowboarding; the participants get to ride the “wake” of a boat, with the help of wakeboards. Wakeboarding is a popular adventure sports activity that is practiced and followed by thousands of adventure sports enthusiasts all over the world. Wakeboarding started gaining popularity in the early 80s. In this adventure activity, the participant is harnessed to the Wakeboard by the means of specially designed shoe shaped attachments. The participant then takes hold of the front end of a tow rope, which is attached to a boat.

The wake boarder is then towed by the boat. When the participant gets towed, he/she balances on the wakeboard and tries to stay in an upright position while skimming the surface of the water.

What are water slides?

Water slides are recreational equipments that are commonly and popularly used in all water theme parks and even in resorts and swimming pools. Water slides have undergone a complete transformation from a simple water recreational aid to fully fledged adventure activity unto themselves. In fact, water slides are almost compulsory additions to all water based theme parks and recreational resorts. There are many types of water slides – body slides, lop slides and twisting slides are the most common but simpler versions of this recreational aid. The more advanced water slides include complete water based rides like water coasters, funnel slides, speed slides, etc. Water slides combine the two most popular recreational activities of the people – water sports and adventure activities. Swimming pools, diving boards and thrill rides are the most densely populated areas of recreational centers and water slides combine these aspects and provide a unique recreational option for the people.

What is parasailing?

Parasailing is a recreational sport that involves the use of specially designed parachutes or parasails that is attached to the person from one end and is also harnessed to a motorized vehicle (usually a power boat) from another end. This is one type of adventure sports where the participants get to sail in the air but with minimal personal control. The speed and the sailing ability of the participants are imparted by the power of the vehicle to which the parasails are harnessed to.

The tow vehicle pulls the parasail and the participant for a distance and then the sails fill up with air and float in the air, pulling the harnessed participant up along with it. Parasailing is a common activity and is also relatively safe, when compared to other types of adventure sports. There are many commercial parasailing operations that are in existence all over the world and participants have the choice of opting for water based or land based parasailing activity.

What are adventure sports?

Adventure sports are those activities that involve higher levels of risk and greater levels of physical exertion and high dosage of adrenalin and concentration levels. This above definition can be true for all types of sports and adventure activities but adventure sports, in specific are those activities that also involve risk caused by the environment, equipment and conditions. For example, street luge is one type of adventure sports where competitors not only compete against each other, they also will have to overcome the natural climatic conditions, along with successfully navigating the obstacles of the man made roads or streets. This type of dual competition, coupled with the non acceptance of these sports into the main stream sporting activities, classify the adventure sports.

Adventure sports have been in existence for quite some time but its popularity has increased only in the past two decades.
